Red Ruby
by Veronica

I remember begging my parents for a dog. Or maybe it was a cat. I don’t remember. I wanted both.
I would ask my mom if I could get one. When she said no, I would go ask dad the same thing. When he said no, I would pout in my room for five minutes, then go watch TV.
One day my mom gave in. Well, halfway. She agreed to buy me a fish. When we went to the store, I looked, but none really stood out. Then a special fish caught my eye.
She was a stunning red, with a magenta glow. Her scales literally shone, sometimes sparkled, when light hit her, like a stone. She was so graceful. She was magnificent.
It only seemed fitting that I named her Red Ruby, because of her gorgeous qualities. Also, because I couldn’t spell magnificent yet.
When I took her home, my dad even bought a tank so she would be more comfortable living there instead of her bowl. I fed her everyday. I was determined to show my parents that I was capable of taking care of a bigger animal, but I also really liked Red Ruby.
Then, one day after school, I came home to a terrible sight.
“What happened to Red Ruby?” I asked
“Well, your brother clogged the tank with blueberry muffins. He was trying to feed her.” My mom said.
“So she died?”
“Ummmm... yes.”
Now I don’t have any pets. But I will always remember Red Ruby, my very first fish.

john d.-Frozen Fear

One night I lay in bed peacefully sleeping then a banging on the ceiling waked me. I looked around my room, and then I looked at my sister’s painting. Then I froze out of fear because the paintings look like they were watching me and moving. I tried to talk or move but I was speechless. I couldn’t move and I stared in horror at the paintings, they looked like they were coming out of the frames and they were coming to get me. I closed my eyes and blinked a lot and each time I blinked the figures in the paintings got farther away until they were back in painting form motionless. Then I went to sleep and they never came back again.

Voldemort's Return

Spencer

One night, I saw The Goblet of Fire for the first time. When Voldemort was born for the 2nd time, it was really scary and gross. I really got scared and my mom had to walk me up stairs to my room. I fell asleep and woke up around 2 o'clock in the morning, I heard rustling under my bed. It sounded like someone was under my bed. The door was open just enough for someone to slip in. I grabbed my blanket to cover me and I couldn't breathe. All the blood drained from my face and my legs felt like metal. I couldn't move. It was lightning and thundering the night so my room was lighting up and Voldemort was under my bed.

I thought happy things and I fell back asleep and next thing I know its morning. My dad opens my door almost every night to " circulate" the air. In the morning I asked him if he opened my door last night and he said that he did. So not I know my opened my door but what was all that rustling? My mom wanted to let my dog outside to go to the bathroom so she told me to go get my dog. I called her name and squeaked her favorite toy. I saw her come out from under my bed. I looked under there and there was a lot of junk. She must have had a bad dream and she startled to move around. It wasn't Voldemort that was under my bed it was my dog. My dog was Voldemort that night.

Off Timer
By Peyton

I was in bed but wasn’t asleep. I was watching TV. All of a sudden, it turned off unexpectedly. It frightened me. The next day, I turned on the TV. The off-timer was on. I was relieved.

The “Theif”

Max

In South Carolina at Christmas time, I had a certain fear most nights. I lay in bed and strange noises were in the house. I thought it was a thief that would kidnap me and kill me. I froze every time I heard the noise. It felt like the thief took one step every ten minutes. One day, I took a look in the front room. No one was there. At that point, I realized it was the wood in the house. The wood was settling in the house.

Fear Memoir

Caroline

I was lying in bed hearing noises upstairs. Thump after thump. My bed shook. The window put light on my ceiling. My pink curtains lit up the room. I thought aliens were invading Earth. I saw little shadows, my eyes were deceiving me. The light on my ceiling was flashing. I could never sleep.
